Please join us for the Artists for Hope Virtual Master Class series!

This master class series, offered via zoom, is hosted by San Jacinto College, and will feature international guest instructors. Our second class is with Yosmell Calderon, Principal Artist of Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, Pal Frenak Company, and Ballets Jazz de Montreal.

Yosmell Calderón was born 1987 in Oriol, Russia. As a dance student, he began to work with the Danza Contemporanea on the film “You Cuba” for Channel 5 for the British Television (2004). Later as a Principal Dancer he participated in the French documentary Danza el Milagro de Cuba (2012) and Carmen La Cubana Chatelet Opera in París (2016). He graduated as a Dancer and TEACHER of contemporany dance and folklore from the National School of Dance in Havana City in 2005 and Arts University ISA 2014. His teaching credits include: Harvard University Dance Center, Boston Dance Theater, National Dance School of Cuba (ENA), Elementary School of Ballet Cuba, IncolBallet Company & Academy Colombia, Vir2oz Summer Course Israel, Danza Contemporanea de Colombia, BeDanza, Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, Malpaso Company, & Carlos Acosta Company. Yosmell collaborated with outstanding figures in the world of dance like Jan Linkens, Rafael Bonachela, Mats Ek, Ana Laguna, Mariko Aoyama, Itzik Galili, Angels Margarite, Juan Cruz, George Cespedes, Pedro Ruiz, Cathy Marston, Isidro Rolando, Osnel Delgado Wanbrug, Eduardo Rivero, Carlos Junior Acosta, Julio Cesar Iglesias, Barak Marshall, Rodrigo Pederneiras, Adonis Foniadakis, Ihsan Rustem, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. He has performed as a principal dancer alongside José Manuel Carreño, Tamara Rojo, Carlos Junior Acosta, Herman Cornejo and Rasta Tomas in more than 22 works from Cuban and foreign choreographers, touring though important festivals and theater venues around the world. As a CHOREOGRAPHER, he has had the opportunity to choreograph for the elemental Ballet School for the International Festival of Ballet de La Havana and Ballets Jazz de Montreal MOMENTUM. He has collaborated as a choreographer with Wisz, a famous English producer and director of video art, on the video Voices Disclosure. Thanks to his background in Olympic gymnastics, he also choreographs for circus performances. Yosmell is currently working on his own projects in Montreal.
